Longchair Sofa: What Is It, Who Is It For, and How to Choose One

The term "longchair" is one of the most searched — and most misunderstood — terms in sofa shopping. This guide has the answers.

What is a longchair on a sofa?

A longchair is an extended seating element attached to the end of a modular sofa — long enough to lie down on fully. On a modular sofa, the longchair is a separate module: you can add or remove it, change which side it sits on, or replace it independently.

Left-hand vs right-hand longchair

Standing facing your sofa: if the longchair is on your right, it's right-hand. On a modular sofa like Merlot or Malbec, you can often swap it to the other side later.
