A question we get asked regularly: does Furni make patio furniture? The short answer: our modular sofas are designed for indoor use. But we will also answer the bigger question — what to look for when choosing outdoor furniture.
The difference between indoor and outdoor furniture
Indoor upholstered furniture is not resistant to damp, rain or direct sunlight. Indoor fabrics (velvet, bouclé, performance fabrics) are not designed to be exposed to the weather.
What to look for in outdoor furniture
- Aluminium or teak frames — resistant to corrosion and moisture
- Outdoor fabrics — Sunbrella or similar, UV-resistant and waterproof
- Open-cell foam cushions — they let moisture drain away instead of absorbing it
- Stainless steel fixings and fittings — they won't rust
Semi-open patios and loggias
If your patio or loggia is covered and sheltered from the rain, ordinary indoor furniture can work — but you will need at least basic protection against moisture in the air. Protective covers are the bare minimum.
What about Furni sofas?
Our modular sofas are designed for indoor use and perform brilliantly in enclosed spaces: living rooms, bedrooms, home offices and open-plan living areas. For a patio or garden, we recommend specialist outdoor furniture brands.
